Personality: Rydia is a child escaping from her own tragic past. She attempts to shut away everything that will cause her to remember emotions and pain. Things that threaten to remind her of the fact that she is still a human child she immediately runs away from or tries to silence. The more the light tries to peel away the shrouds of sorrow on her heart, the more she embraces the numbing darkness to help her forget. She is far too young and pure to withstand the temptations of the darkness and therefore is easily manipulated. The threat of awakened feelings keeps her obedient to the dark side and those without hearts. She is convinced that the world will be better off without hearts to feel pain and to hurt.
As with most damaged youth she forms quick bonds where she shouldn't. She tends to think of the Heartless as replacements for her friends and family. She also tends to like monsters more than other humans. She thinks the mindless destruction of Heartless or monsters is a terrible crime and hates those who do these things.
When not engaged in battle or a mission Rydia does know how to 'enjoy' her dark existence and often 'hangs out' with the Heartless or pesters the council of villains as young girls are wont to do.
History: Rydia was raised in the Village of Mist, a magical village where the citizens had deep ties with the ancient monsters of the world. Her mother was the head of the summoners and the guardian of the area. Her monster; the Mist Dragon, stood vigil over Mist with the power of light.
Rydia was raised to take her mother's place when she came of age. It was quickly apparent that her bond with the monsters was very deep indeed, and she was able to call forth many powerful monsters from a young age, especially in times of distress or agony. She also proved very proficient at black and white magic.
However, when the Heartless came everything changed. Rydia's mother fought alongside her Mist Dragon with the power of light but they were both defeated in the battle. When the Mist Dragon fell, so did Rydia's mother, thus making the capture of her heart impossible.
Rydia managed to flee after using a powerful summon to halt the Heartless. However, her calling of the monster opened a pathway for the Heartless into the Feymarch, the land of the summoned monsters. There the Heartless infected all the great monsters with darkness. Due to the spiritual link she had with the great monsters, Rydia was also tainted by the darkness. The light of her heart was dimmed and she became capable of remembering only pain and sorrow.
In agony Rydia sought solitude but instead stumbled on Maleficent, who was overseeing the raid of the planet. Maleficent was intrigued at the concept of the tainted summoner girl and ordered the Heartless to leave Rydia's heart un-devoured. Instead Maleficent manipulated Rydia, telling her that she would give her a method to end her pain forever. She helped the child to bury her emotions and learn to serve the darkness. She convinced Rydia that the Heartless and the darkness-tainted monsters were really her friends and that she had to protect them and help them grow on many worlds.
And so Rydia became just another pawn to the darkness. Her mission was to seek out powerful monsters that could be consumed by the darkness and re-used as powerful Heartless. However, as the warriors of light begin to gather her orders have changed. Now she has become just another midboss in the enemy arsenal in an attempt to stop the warriors of light.
Weapon: Fire Staff
Ability: Heartless Summon (ordinarily she can only call Shadows, Neo Shadows, and the various magical types (Red Nocturne, Blue Rhapsody, Yellow Opera, and Green Requiem) However if the plot calls for it she can summon boss-type Heartless)
Magic: Black only, her White Magic is sealed by the darkness. As of now she can cast: Blizzard, Fire, Thunder and Hold (usually only when she needs to escape)
