It was a wonderful day in Twilight Town. Like usual, the sun was shining brightly in the sky bathing the entire world in warm rays of sunlight. Most of the world’s residents were walking around and enjoying the wonderful weather. The younger kids were playing tag with their friends. Some of the older kids were battling it out in the Sandlot. High above the streets, a dark portal appeared, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d think that the person was a heartless or a nobody, but it was actually a human. Nate was wearing a black long sleeved t-shirt with a white dress jacket covering it, a pair of white dress pants, and a pair of black shoes. Nathaniel examined his surroundings trying to get a good feel. It wasn’t long before his cell phone started ringing. He quickly answered it and put it up to his ear.
“Yeah.” He said in an emotionless tone. “Have you arrived at the destination?” The voice asked. “Yes, I just arrived in Twilight Town.” Nate said into the phone, his dark red eyes continuing to look around. “Good, I’m sending you a picture of the targets now.” The voice said before hanging up. A second later, a hologram came out of his phone. There were four targets; two were human scientists experimenting on people, and the other two was a rather large looking wolf-like heartless that they used to bring back humans. Nate quickly shoved the phone into his pocket, and started running along the rooftops.
After a few of hours of just looking around, the sun was starting to set which would make it a little easier for him. Throughout all his years of fighting, he’s found that heartless tend to prey on citizens during the night when not as many people were out. It wasn’t too long after that, that he heard someone screaming. He ran over to the side of one of the buildings and saw one of the beasts he was after dragging a few people into the forest. He let out a small wicked smile as he gracefully stepped off the side of the building and landed on the ground with a soft thud.
Nate ran into the forest trailing closely behind the heartless. Nate smiled as he let out a loud high pitched whistle getting the heartless’ attention. The heartless turned around and threw the people behind him. “Let’s get this over with.” He said in his usual emotionless tone his red eyes staring straight into the beast’s red eyes. It took off running towards Nate, but he simply stepped to the side, summoned his shadow rapier and plunged it into the beast’s side. It let out a small roar as it stepped back from Nate. It was then that he let out a roar that could probably be heard through out the entire town. With that roar, he summoned countless heartless of every species before it took off running. He tried to run after it, but the heartless were blocking his path. Nate knew that there were too many heartless here for just one person to fight off. It was times like these that he actually wished that he had a companion by his side.

Zack Fair
Zack sat on his bike as he cruised down the street in a town he didn’t know. He was on his way to Gongaga. Tifa had persuaded him to go and face the town of his childhood. Part of him didn’t want to go, since he wasn’t sure what he would find. He had come back from the lifestream just recently, so he didn’t exactly know what had gone on while he had been dead…
Yeah, he had been dead, after ShinRa had killed him, he had remained there. For some reason he had been able to come back though. It was in his destiny, he had come back for a reason, yet he didn’t know what that reason was either. It probably had something to do with Cloud or Aerith. He smiled at the thought of his best friend and the love of his life. Aerith had been with him in the lifestream until she too had been brought back to Gaia to be able to live her life.
He hadn’t seen her yet, but he had only been back for a few days. He would find her, Tifa had given him hope for that. His mind flew back to reality when a horrific scream pierced the air. Skidding to a stop on his bike, his sky blue eyes searched the surrounding area. He didn’t see anything, before suddenly, a large beast suddenly emerged from a street ahead of him. His eyes narrowed for a second, he hadn’t seen anything like the beast he had seen.
having been a SOLDIER 1st class in ShinRa, he had seen some weird things, but nothing quite like that. Glancing around, he parked the bike and got off. He was going to follow the beast, but suddenly wondered where it might have come from. Backtracking it, he jogged into the forest, he felt the ground where the indentation of the beast’s prints were. Balancing on his heels, he glanced around. Reaching back with his hand, he made sure his sword was secure, it was as always. He couldn’t be too sure however, in his life he had learned to be ready for anything.
Walking about a hundred more feet into the woods, his mako infused eyes searched around him. He heard some growls and broke into a jog again. Coming upon a clearing in the forest, he suddenly saw a human standing with many smaller versions of the beast around him. They were different, but of the same make. “Hey!” the human had some sort of weapon, but that was an awful lot of creatures to take on by yourself! Drawing his sword off his back with a flourish, he charged at the beasts that had surrounded the man in a large horde. Jumping in the air, he came down with planted feet beside the pack of beasts. Bringing his sword down swiftly, he cut one severely. Screaming, it lay down on the ground and started quivering. He didn’t stop to look at the man he was helping out. If it had been him standing there, he would be glad for the help!

Nate examined all the heartless surrounding him. This was way too much even for one person. Sure, he had seen and been through a lot worse. There were times when he had taken on more than this and that was when he just started fighting, but he always had help. Back then, his sister Emily was always fighting by his side. Between the two of them along with all the darkness they had been implanted with, they would take out any enemies that stood in their way. Nate reached up and grabbed his sisters necklace that was hanging loosely around his neck and gripped it tightly. He didn’t know why, but every time he held onto the necklace, he felt stronger.
He looked straight at the hordes of Heartless, his crimson eyes filled with a lust for violence. Just as he was about to jump into the hordes and start fighting, he heard someone else in the area. He looked and saw another human, but this one had a different essence than other humans something was different about him. He watched as the human took out his sword and started to cut through some of the heartless. So he had some fighting skills as well. Usually, he wouldn’t have wanted the help, but not even he was stubborn enough to refuse some help with taking out the packs of heartless.
Nate snapped back into the fight and jumped into a pack of the beasts. Luckily, these were a lot weaker than the thing that created it. He swiftly moved from side to side cleanly slicing through them leaving behind nothing but a small wisp of black smoke. He soon took out his pack and looked over at the other person fighting and saw that he was taking them out just as fast, but there were still a lot more and he didn’t have time to be worrying about someone else.
Suddenly, a large horde started attacking Nate. He tried to fight them off with his rapier, but there were just too many of them. He looked at them and it looked like they were smiling, as if they had won the fight. Nate simply let out a small wicked smile as he extended his fingers. You couldn’t see it, but ten extremely sharp microfilament wires were unraveling off Nate’s fingers. “Come on then.” He said still smiling. The pack all attacked at once. That was what he was expecting. Just as the pack was above him, he gracefully moved his pale hands in all sorts of directions. The pack all stopped at once and landed on their feet. Just as the landed, they split into pieces.
All the heartless in his section of the forest had been taken out. He looked over and saw that the other person was still fighting some off. Nate started making his way in the direction his target had taken off in earlier. Just as he was about to leave, he felt something he hadn’t felt in awhile. It was guilt. He couldn’t just leave the guy to fight off the rest by himself. “Uggh.” He said as he took off towards the guy and stood beside him. He swiftly started moving his hands and cutting through the heartless trying to help the guy out.

Zack Fair
Zack sliced this way and that with his sword, beast after beast fell as he swept his sword into each of them. He was trained to do this, it had been his life for about 7 years. It had been his entire life, knowing who the enemy was, and how to take them out! He had lived like that, being in SOLDIER wasn’t for everyone. In fact, only a few could cut the mold when it came to being in SOLDIER. Starting at the age of 13, he had gone from a country boy looking for adventure, to an elite fighting super human.
Being medically enhanced with mako, his glowing blue eyes were a trademark from that. Upbeat and outgoing, he didn’t pass by anyone in need. Glancing over at the man he had started helping, he saw him fighting well. His eyes were surprised; this must not be just any normal human. Now 23, he had changed somewhat over the years, yet, he was mostly still the same Zack he normally was. Jumping in the air, he brought the buster sword onto two beasts that attacked him at the same time.
Holding the massive sword was easy for him, but most couldn’t handle it at all. In fact, only SOLDIER 1st class operatives were able to pick up the buster sword and actually use it to fight with. For some reason though, handling it was no problem for Zack, and he swirled it around with the ease of having a sword half the size in his hands. He glanced over to see a huge horde attacking the man. He cringed for the man, but couldn’t do anything about him as he was attacked himself by the seemingly endless about of Heartless that were bothering him.
He didn’t see how he had done it, but the man had taken care of them. One last large group surrounded Zack as he smiled. “Bring it on!” He said as he put the sword away on his back and leaped back a few feet. Landing on one knee and on one of his legs, he looked up, a little smile on his face. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the man start to run away, he wasn’t even going to say thanks? Shrugging, Zack lifted his arm, a red orb appeared there. Using the materia he had, he summoned red energy magic onto his arm.
He didn’t notice the man come back, but sweeping his hand away from his chest, he sent the energy magic toward the beasts as they leapt toward him. A small portion of his magic hit each one as he continued flipping the magic toward them. He noticed suddenly then that the man had come back. He hadn’t needed any extra help, but at least the guys heart was in the right place! Seeing the last beast curl up and disappear as it died, he straitened up to his full height. Letting his arm fall to his side, the red orb disappeared from his arm quickly. Turning his head, he smiled at the man, his eyes bright and friendly. Crossing his arms, he looked around him at the slain beasts, “You handled yourself well out there…The name’s Zack by the way, Zack Fair!” He spoke as he held out his hand to shake hands with the stranger he had helped out. He didn't ask his name though, as far as he was concerned, he didn't need to know the man's name to be friendly. Some found it offense at their name being asked, which was another reason not to pry...

Nate continued to help take out the remaining heartless, and soon took out all the ones around him. He watched as the other guy took out the rest of the heartless. He had skill far beyond that of any average human. He examined the guy a little closer and noticed his bright blue eyes. They looked almost as unnatural as his crimson eyes. The guy interested him for some reason; there was something different about him, he felt like he could trust him something he hasn’t felt in a while. Nate brought his attention back to his assignment and started looking around the forest to see where his target could’ve ran off to. He couldn’t have gotten too far. He thought to himself, as he red eyes continued to scan the area.
Suddenly, he heard the guy say something about how he handled himself well and introduced himself as Zack Fair. Nate was getting ready to ignore Zack and move on, but he heard a girl’s voice in his head. Be nice…he’s a nice guy…after all he did help you, and if he didn’t you’d probably still be fighting off those heartless. He hadn’t heard that voice in awhile. It was his sister’s, he felt extremely confused. Must be imagining things. He thought as he looked back towards Zack. “Thanks…” He said his usual frown starting to curl upwards into what seemed like a smile. It was a small one, but it was a smile. “You didn’t too bad yourself.” He said sounding a little friendlier. “Nice to meet ya. The name’s Nathaniel Covenant. But, my friends call me Nate. Well, if I had any friends.” He said with a smile as he twirled his hands and wrapped the microfilament wires he used earlier back around each of his fingers. What was happening to him, usually, he was never this nice to people. It’s like he was a totally different person.
Ask him to help. The voice said again. Like I need help. He thought to himself, reverting back to his old self. Now he thought he was completely losing it. What kind of person argued with some chick in his head who he hasn’t seen in years. “Hey.” He said with a tiny smile. “You really have some skills. How would like to make a lot of extra munny putting them to good use?” He asked trying to get Zack interested. “I was hired to take out two of those things you saw earlier, plus two scientists who are experimenting on humans.” He said explaining his assignment. “Soooo what do ya say…you in?” He asked curiously.

Zack Fair
Zack grinned as the last of the heartless fell to its knees and disappeared into the lifestream. Swinging his sword onto his back again, he crossed his arms and smiled around him. “Oh yeah!” He said with a chuckle, it felt good to be in some action again, after all, he hadn’t been in any action since he had come back to life. He had been scared he might have lost his edge, but he could see that wasn’t the case. He was still Zack Fair, SOLDIER 1st class in fighting abilities! The grin on his face didn’t match up with the fighting style he had. If you just saw him fight, one might think he was a cold blooded man, modified to kill, but that wasn’t the case. Not many had as much personality as he did, that’s why Angeal had nicknamed him ‘the puppy’ in fun! Turning, his hands dropped down to his waist, his glowing blue eyes looking at the man. Nodding, his spiky black hair rustled with the movement. The man’s voice was cold, distant, but it soon became slightly friendlier. Nathaniel covenant…interesting name. He raised his eyebrow when he spoke of the fact that if he had any friends they might call him Nate. Shrugging, the grin came back onto his face again.
Zack chuckled when he spoke of his skills. Fighting had been his entire life, nothing else since he was 14, he should be able to handle himself, at least a fairly well! He crossed his arms though, when he spoke of making money. His eyebrow raised, he wasn’t a hired killer, no matter what he had done in the past. He had killed others, yet it hadn’t been just for the money. He had wanted to become a Hero, that had been his entire goal when he had joined SOLDIER, but he wasn’t a hired killer.
Yet, when he spoke of the fact that some of what he would take out were the heartless, he shrugged. Doing that would be a favor to the world, after all, they destroyed lives of humans that they took regularly. “I’m not sure…I’m not a mercenary…but if you say part of the job is to kill heartless, I will go with you to help out!” shaking his head, he wondered why he did all this stuff. He never knew he got himself into the stuff he did, but his best guess was destiny. However, this didn’t seem to have anything to do with destiny…
Glancing at him, he raised an eyebrow, “But I’m doing this for the lives it will save in the long run, you don’t need to pay me anything!” Nodding to him, he glanced around. “So I’m guessing your after the beast that ran down the road to the west of here?” It couldn’t be any other one, for that one was huge, a great menace to the surrounding area. The area was turning dark as night started to fall. The last rays of light were touching the sky as he nodded. “Yeah, I’ll help you take them out!”
