Hope Estheim
“What happens when your actions end up ruining someone's life?
How do you pay for what you've done?”
How do you pay for what you've done?”
Age:14
Family:Nora(deceased) and Bartoromy Estheim
Race: Human
Side: Light
Job: L'Cie
Items: Dual Boomerangs
Accessories:Bag, Scarf, Bracelet, Black and White gloves
Personality:
There is a lot more to Hope than his name. Most people who have met him, associate it with a belief that someday the Sanctum and PSICOM would not destroy the L'cie and that peace would be restored to Cocoon. Though highly unlikely and barely imaginable, Hope's parents Nora and Bartoromy Estheim fought for their beliefs after they discovered their lives were in danger. This name is good to summarise his feelings that if Orphan was defeated, his mother would return to life and he has high hopes to find her again.
As a fourteen year old, he has a temper and upon losing both parents in a short time, he became insecure and acts as he wills without thinking about the consequences more than how he feels. This childish nature develops as he travels with friends he later meets, but is also a reflection of the doting his family gave him as a child born into very comfortable means.
His attitude fluctuates and is presented differently with people he cares about and people he doesn't; Hope is emotional and gets carried away from etiquette sometimes due to this, and matures only after fighting for his life, becoming a proper L'cie. Having a very fragile heart, he is the youngest to join the resistance and tries to develop into a brave young man to avoid feeling the moments in battle where he wants to flee.
Hope wears a yellow and orange coat with khaki pants and laced shoes that buckle at the ankle. The bracelet on his left arm is supposed to cover most of his L'cie mark to keep him unnoticed but he has rosey silver hair which makes him stand out.
History:
14 years of his life was spent with his mother and father who worked for the Sanctum. His family was high class but they were loving and spoiled him in ways that meant he loved them more than anything in the world; they had strong and deep bonds even if he was L'cie. His father protested against Hope's intentions to leave and never see him again because no matter what happened, he was still his son. This was unfortunate as they still parted when Hope left him behind with Snow and Team Nora. By this time, his mother had died after volunteering to fight with Snow against the PSICOM in efforts to save Snow from a cannon blast.
Hope has hated Snow with a true grudge ever since he saw her fall off a destroyed motorway leaving him behind and unable to move; he couldn't do anything to save her and has regretted it ever since. When Vanille encouraged him to leave them in the fight to survive with Snow, he realised that he only way to take out his anger and fulfil his repressed anguish was to kill Snow, but even that had been stopped when PSICOM attacked. The knife Lightning had given him for protection which he had told her he would use to make Snow pay, was never again drawn at him since he apologised to Snow for his behaviour.
It took a whole journey for them to become friends, and it was only under the term that Snow accepted his apology. Hope still respects Lightning more than anyone in the group though, and regards her highly, mostly addressing her as if she were his older sister. During this time with Team Nora, he had befriended Vanille and tried to fight alongside her even though she tended to be more dramatic than he liked and slapped him once; it was the first slap he had ever had since his parents refused to lay a hand on him. With Fang too, they were his new family, and Hope grew a lot with their comfort, also finding his own summon as a L'cie, called Alexander; he managed to tame it with the help of Fang and Lightning and has been with them ever since they fought Sanctum forces the night his mother died.
