OERBA DIA VANILLE
“"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." ”
Age: unknown
Family: Vanille family
Race: Sera
Side: Light
Job: none
Items: none
Accessories: fur sash, necklaces, torso chain, pouch and bracelets
Personality: Vanille is an endearing young woman with a relentlessly sunny disposition. Her bright personality gives no hint of the dark resolve that lies within. She is also mysterious, and very kind too she gets along with Hope. She is also cute, and cheerful as well.
She doesn't know much about being anything, but what she is acting. She just wanted to make sure that nothing would go wrong. She just liked the fact the she is helping others in Team Norra, and getting along with Hope. She has a very cheery personality and looks like the kind of person who always tries to see the best in things.
History: She is a resident of Pulse, along with Oerba Yun Fang, and a l'Cie like the rest of the main cast. At one point, she is captured by the Sanctum and seen walking chained in a funeral procession watched over by Jihl Nabaat. She is among those saved by Snow Villiers and Team Nora from the train carrying exiles to Pulse. She grows close to exile Hope Estheim, and together they ward off an assault of Cie Corpses.
Vanille is seen being taken away by guards waiting to be expelled to Pulse, a world underneath Cocoon that the people of Cocoon are very afraid of. The Holy Government has the right to expel people they suspect of having ‘bad influence’ on Cocoon, although it’s still unknown what Vanille did to get herself into trouble. She is also friend to Lightning and Snow, the latest screen shows her playing around with Snow’s weapon. Her own weapon is something which looks like curvy tree branches and can be folded when not in use. Since her fashion is so different from Lightning and others, it’s possible that Cocoon also has people of different cultures. While she may look cute and cheerful, there's a tragic story behind her.
She is from the same tribe as Oerba Yun Fang, but its uncertain that what she is from the same tribe as Oerba Yun Fang. She is seen apologizing to Serah on her knees after touching her l'Cie mark. She is telling Sazh to shoot her for unknown reasons, and asking him what she should do. Little is actually known about her other than she is a resident of Pulse. She has been seen in ceremonial robes, and it is known that both Lightning and Snow have been tasked with protecting her, but it is unknown why. It was recently revealed that she is of the Sera race, and it is unknown how these people differ from Humans. Oerba Dia Vanille is what is called an “l’Cie.” You say that something like “luh-shee,” with a little bit of accent on the second syllable. An l’Cie is someone lucky, or perhaps unlucky enough to have been chosen by the Fal’Cie, the godlike beings that look over the world of Pulse, to pursue some particularly fateful destiny.
This makes her someone of interest to a lot of other someones, representing both the aggressive theocracy that rules the city of Cocoon and the resistance movement (led by Snow Villiers, among others) that’s looking to overthrow it. Exactly what they plan to do with her is an open question, though, as is how she herself feels about being supposedly destined for great things.
Oerba is able to summon a familiar spirit to aid her. In her case, it’s a variation on Carbuncle, the rodent-like sprite that typically grants healing and defensive magical effects. When she’s not using magic to defend herself, she typically fights with a bow – a rather uncommon choice of weapon.
Weapon: Bind Rod
Ability: In battle, Vanille's weapon is called the Bind Rod. Its head piece looks like a pair of antlers. Its body consists of four long wires with hooks that deal damage to enemies by latching on and pulling. She concentrates on casting magic spells from the distance, as opposed to the close combat style of Lightning and Snow. According to scans, she also knows a variety of support magic spells, such as Protect.
Vanille summons Hecatoncheir, a many-armed Eidolon that transforms into a bipedal mech with four machine gun turrets.
Magic: support magic
Crushes: none
