Tifa would see that he was finally asleep. His face was very still as he laid on his side in bed. Still her hand held on to his. But he was not gripping it. Even though she was.
~~~In His Dreams~~~
Cloud was already inside Aerith's church. He smiled sweetly at the scene before him. He saw the small patch of flowers. And walked up to them...But remembered carefully not to step on them as Aerith instructed him not to in his past. Cloud looked around the place it was becoming new again. Every turned over pew was back in its place....Another smiled appeared on Cloud's face...So far so good....There was nothing frightening him...It was just peace. Peace and quiet....Cloud did hear the birds chirp out side....What ever Noctis was doing, sure was working....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But even Noctis could not hold back the fear for ever. Some thing would happen. People did not change over night....Cloud knew that all to well....It took him time to tell Tifa how he truly felt...Tifa would see too...That even though Cloud started to dream his face changed expressions....He started to groan softly...
~~~Back To Dream~~~
Cloud walked out of the church....And when that happened....A dark grey sky rolled in above him....Rain drops began to paddle down on the rubble....A ghostly image appeared before Cloud.....And sure enough there he was...Sephiroth....Not talking or moving....But just starring....Starring at Cloud...Cloud was froze solid.....What else did this monster want of him....? The scene of Aerith dying appeared before him again.....Cloud tried to move to change the night mare....But it was impossible....Cloud could not move at all.....
Noctis' heart raced. Though his formal self was with Tifa and nodded at her, obedient to what she had said about not waking Cloud, his inner conscience was sucked into Cloud's dreaming rapidly. "Cloud has a tendency to attract enemies and friends from abroad...worlds apart, they still come knocking...I have not heard of this Genesis; he is aligned with Sephiroth if he joined the darkness?"
Pensive, he didn't think it was possible but somehow, these nightmares were much harder to confront than Noctis predicted; he was wandering in Cloud's memories now unwilling to scry into them. His confusion led to a weakness; an opening as the dreaming potentially turned into a nightmare but he didn't know. Falling, he landed in a half wrecked building, the towering walls he marveled at for their antique finishing but in front was a broken through cieling where light poured in and lily flowers grew under its glare. Where was this?
Eyes glancing round suspiciously, he turned slowly over his shoulder to see the entrance aisle of a church; he was standing right in the centre, and blank in the supernatural setting, Cloud was immobile before Noctis. Why did things stop? He swung his hand in a wave to Cloud, but what he saw was only holographic quick images of his movement, overlaying eachother as though he was animating himself incompletely. Even he had seemingly stopped...No...he was just slower from the anchorage of the source of Cloud's nightmares. It was his desperate anger at his lack of control that pushed cogwheels the dream ran on to start turning again.
As forcibly as he could, he moved because his conscious was awake and determined, he was not going to give up on Cloud as he tried to catch up to the figure outside this church, admiring...it wasn't admiration that froze Cloud, Noctis saw for himself... a woman clad in a rose coloured dress, dying and he searched for answers in his mind, finding nothing. Finally in front of Cloud to signal at him, but that got him nowhere either...he was unseen. They were in the same place of a dream...but different dimensions in time... he wasn't supposed to be there where he could contact Cloud. It was beyond him and soon Noctis faded out, bogged down with frustration at what he had witnessed and let begin to happen. This anxiety though, blurred the scene of death, as he took a last leap towards it, reaching to see if anything was substantial and it wasn't...it is only the past that comes back...Cloud is remembering...
The scene zoomed out of his eyes, the motion picture having played in his iris like they were orbs projecting it but now that cleared; he blinked where he stood, on the verge of vertigo that never fully wheeled him dizzy. "Tifa...do you know a woman who wears a rose coloured dress with auburn hair... Cloud has a memory of her...?" It sounded surreal that he was asking her out of the blue, crazy even, but that was because he had spaced out... Noctis figured he needed to corrupt this memory with a good one but he couldn't replace the entirety of it; not the people involved...it has to be a good memory of her that could prevent this nightmare from carrying on...Just who is she? His eyebrows creased, and he stared at the texture of the bed sheet aimless to where he should look, with the cold sensation of having had a rude awakening; he was only glad that he had been awake in the first place, and that Cloud still lay asleep. There was still time to cut off an unwanted ending...
everything seemed peaceful and Cloud seemed to be enjoying his dream. Finally he could get the rest he wanted. She smiles looking at him but then the expression on his face change and it looked like he was disturbed was it another nightmare? "Noctis....." She turned to him for answerers. What should they do and were his dreams really that hard to control.
Concerned and worried she tried to comfort him by rubbing her hand on his shoulder and assuring him that it was okay. But would he hear her did he still sense her presence or even knew she was there with him? She glanced at Noctis unsure what else to do and waited for instructions or anything to do that might help.
"A woman who wears a rose coloured dress with auburn hair.......? You mean Aerith yes I know her she is our friend....." She didn't know why he suddenly asked that question. Could Cloud's nightmare have something to do with her...... was it Sephiroth again?
As Tifa and Noctis exchanged words....Cloud shot his eyes open...Thank goodness Zack was not here....Cloud did not need his friend worrying over him again....Cloud knew that Zack was probably looking for Aerith....It was most likely sooth things for Cloud...Seeing her again.....Little did Tifa know, it was Noctis that woke Cloud from this recent night mare....Since Noctis had searched in Cloud's mind as to what was going on....And why Cloud was grumbling it probably worried Tifa some....
Cloud looked over at Tifa...."I....I'm sorry Tifa....." He was now sweating from this.....As he tried to sit up in bed....He felt her still holding his hand...He glanced down.....She was worried he could tell by the way she was looking at him.....
It made him cringe a little, knowing about the woman in the dress. The disturbances ended; Tifa's voice sounded small as he heard her call his name. He made a face, flinching with some kind of electric static because Cloud woke up and he was poking into the conscience. "Ah..." Such gasps like this weren't frequent, Noctis reached his gloved hand to his face, and squeezed the bridge of his nose in concentration and headache. Nothing serious though, he stopped and looked blankly at Cloud, seeing the cold sweat damp on the man's forehead.
He was sorry that it couldn't continue for long; they'd run out of time while he asked Tifa who Aerith was... it was no good not knowing enough about Cloud after all; he needed stuff to replace those bad memories. His breathing was light, and riddled with present concern as he spoke. " Aerith... why does she appear to be a pain to you Cloud?" Nevermind waiting for him to recover, what good would it do if Cloud still could not be rid of nightmares and he was here to prevent them? The question cut through like a knife to a cake; softly splitting the secrets inside.
There was a lot of wonder flitting inside him but he knew Tifa was worried now and that was a shame; none of the details would be as true as Cloud would let on if they were in privacy but he couldn't bring himself to request that, nor did it benefit Cloud if she left. Little things he thought too much about came back as he discussed in his head whether Aerith was bait for Sephiroth, after all the time she had been missing; that he knew from Zack's endless search.
