The Road to Naught [KH Characters]

[Riku]

Memory's Skyscraper... A tall building located at the World that Never Was was located here, to get there people needed to fight off a few groups of Heartless that roamed the streets. Some where walking around, searching for something, others were creeping around on the floor and other were hidden within the shadows, waiting for some unsuspecting victim to show. Although they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed... The few people that roamed those parts were too strong for them, The Organization XIII members were the ones that controlled the World that never was and they were no push overs. The only Heartless that wondered around here were the ones who'se hearts could not be harnessed, so their destruction would only be a waste of time. Those who'se heart could be extracted were all killed by the Organization...

A few Neoshadows were awfully agitated, they started converging at the Memory's Skyscraper's square, it seemed they were being attracted by something, or someone. They began to back away from the center, they started making some strange sounds and started twitching. Out of nowhere, a black blob appeared from the ground at the center, it rose up and expanded. It was a Corridor of Darkness, it was shifting and changing it's shape. Suddenly a black hooded figure appeared from within, emerging from the darkness. Right after the figure stepped out of the strange portal, it vanished.

The Heartless were all frozen in place, their eyes directed to the hooded figure. He gave a quick glance over at the number of Heartless surrounding him and sighed. He lift his hand and he did a downfall movement and with a frail, sparkling light a keyblade appeared in his hand.
He then charged forward, attacking the heartless that stood in front of him. They all vanished as the blade touched them. Right after he did this, the Heartless started swarming him and dog piled him. They looked like a blob of black goo from afar, then a blue light escaped through the small gaps that weren't being covered with Heartless. The Heartless were all blown to smitherins by a blue flame.
The figure looked up, new Heartless were on their way, descending from the rooftops. He smirked and jumped, when he was close to the Heartless he started slashing them. One after the other, as they came close to the figure they all fell before his blade.

As he descended he looked down to see another group of Heartless gathering below him. He threw his blade at them, it was spinning and acted like a boomerang, it took most of the Heartless out but got stuck in one of the buildings. The figure rolled when he finally hit the ground.
He gave a quick glance at his surroundings and saw nothing. He walked to wards his blade, looking at his side.
Suddenly a Neoshadow popped up out of nowhere and was standing between him and his keyblade. It charged against him. The Figure smirked again and extended his arm, showing his palm to the Heartless. When the Heartless was about to claw his head off, a blue flame appeared in the figure's hand and burned the heartless, making him disappear.

The figure grabbed his keyblade and with a downfall movement he made his blade disappear.
He took off his hood to reveal his head. His silver hair moved slightly as he took the hood off. A blindfold was covering his eyes.
"Where are you?...", he said while looking up at the Skyscraper.

[Kairi]

"How did I end up back here?" Kairi said with a gasp glancing around. This was the last place she wanted to end up in, but thats what she got for running into a portal without knowing where it lead and by the time she realized where she was it was too late and the portal just faded.

Now Kairi was stuck in that world. The Realm of Darkness without a weapon for protection. Taking afew steps she slowly walked to a corner and glanced around for any Heartless and Nobodies. She just hoped not to encounter any at the moment but being in that world she knew it was impossible. She just had to figure a way out of this place before she gets into any trouble.

If she did who would save her this time? None of her friends knew where she was or the fact that she left Destiny Island. Like Kairi said before she was tired of waiting at that island for her friends to return and doing nothing. She did that for a year and now thought it was time for her to do something to help. but what could she do?

Kairi let out a sighed realizing that she couldn't even defend herself so how was she suppose to help her friends? "I will find away....." She muttered to herself making her way around the ream and trying at the same time not to be detected by any of the Heartless that started to appear.

[Riku]

Riku sighed, more heartless were coming his way. Ever since his little adventure through Castle Oblivion he could "smell" the darkness, he summoned his keyblade again and gave a quick glance at his surroundings, they were taking their time, they were prowling in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to strike, "Humph, I guess you guys aren't so dumb... But you are slow.", RIku said as he smirked to himself. The only thing that could be seen were pairs of little lights in the shadows and they kept increasing.

RIku went to his usual fighting stance, he watched as the heartless organized them selfs. Some where at ground level, others were crawling around the rooftops. Riku's eyes moved around the area, searching for a place that would help him defend against them. He smiled as he looked up at the skyscraper. He looked to his front, the Heartless were slowly getting closer, Riku's muscles tightened.
RIku turned around and ran to wards the Skyscraper, the Heartless now moving full speed against him. A small group got in the way when he reached the stairs, but with a few swings of his keyblade he dispatched them quickly. When Riku finally reached the bottom of the Skyscraper, he looked back, the horde of Heartless were already at the top of the stairs. He then looked up and ran up the wall.

When Riku finally reached the top of the Skyscraper, he looked around to see if he was being ambushed but he no Heartless were in sight. He looked down and saw the building getting black from all the Heartless climbing it. He sighed and gripped his blade tightly.

A torrent of heartless rose up, only to fall above Riku's head. As they fell upon Riku, he started slashing. One after the other they were being either defeated or thrown down. When the column of Heartless was broken, Riku gasped a bit. But it didn't last long until the Heartless started climbing the building again. Riku took a deep breath and look down again. New Heartless were coming, but at least they weren't as many as before. Riku let himself drop from the building, slicing and dicing the Heartless as they came closer to him.

When he was almost hitting the floor, he did a small somersault and landed on his feet. Right after he landed he was about to be clawed by a Heartless, he deflected the attack and countered it.
He took a look at the square and sighed as he saw a huge shadows appearing from the middle. It was a Darksider.
Riku sighed as he looked up at him.
"Just my luck... Better get crackin'", Riku said as he walked down the stairs.

[Kairi]

Kairi managed to hide from all the Heartless as she searched for a portal or any way out of that realm but without any luck. "What am suppose to do now....?" She asked with a sighed glancing around for something anything that might help her, but all she found was more Heartless. They just kept forming around her and more gathered till she couldn't hide from them.

She backed away once she was spotted and ran as fast as she could trying to get away. More just appeared out of nowhere and just charged after her. There wasn't a chance to lose them and she ended up reaching a dead end. "Now what.....?" She muttered turning to face the Heartless as they formed a circle around her preventing her for escaping.

"Um...." She hesitated but pulled out a wooden sword one that Riku and Sora used to practice with back on Destiny Island. Kairi never used it before but she remembered seeing her friends and she hoped that was enough.

[Riku]

Riku walked to wards the huge Heartless. It looked at him with his big, yellow and bright eyes. Riku raised an eyebrow and rested his keyblade on his shoulder, looking up at the Heartless when he was finally close to him. Just my luck, a big one had to be roaming about... Let's get this over with..., Riku said and right after he did so, the huge heartless rose his arms up and entangled his fingers. He then slammed his hand like a hammer, trying to hit Riku with that blow. Riku ducked and rolled between the Heartless' legs and when he got up, he was behind him, his back to wards him.
Riku put his keyblade in his left hand and focused in his right one. A blue flame appeared in his palm. He focused a little more and the flame grew bigger. With a shout and a push of his hand, he fired at the heartless' head. RIku smirked although the attack did almost nothing. The big heartless turned around and slammed his hand on the ground, creating a black hole. Riku rolled away at the last second, he turned back to the heartless, from his hand a few lesser Heartless started popping up. Riku charged against the huge Heartless, slashing the few lesser Heartless as they stood in his way.
He hop to the big one's arm and ran to wards his head. Suddenly he was surrounded by Dark, glowing Spheres, he twirled his keyblade in his hand and with the other he summoned a dark shield to protect him from the spheres. Riku was knocked away but was unharmed.

Riku fell feet first and right after he fell, the big one was already about to clobber him again, Riku took a deep breath, and went into his fighting stance. The Heartless was just about to hit him, but suddenly, with a flash of light, Riku charged up to the Heartless and pierced him. The Heartless knelled and started vanishing. Riku fell after wards, hitting the floor.
Gah!... Battling so many of these guys takes a lot of work..., Riku said, gasping a bit while he stood up.

He glanced around and saw nothing. He rose an eyebrow, something was up, they wouldn't just quit... He then sensed the Heartless gathering somewhere else. Riku ran up a nearby building and ran through the rooftops, he was curious to know why the heartless were gathering somewhere else.

[Kairi]

Kairi lifted her wooden sword up and turned to face the Heartless as they surrounded her. She wished her friends were there Kairi knew she needed their help. She wasn't much of a fighter and she couldn't use her keyblade without Riku being around. As the Heartless drew closer, she grabbed her sword tight and swung it at the heartless in front but nothing happened.

She swung harder and faster back and forth but the Heartless continued to come. The wooden sword had no effect on them. "Um...." She let the sword drop from her hands backing away till she hit the wall behind her. She was cornered what could she do now? If she called for help would anyone hear her...... was anyone even there?

[Riku]

RIku raced through the rooftops, skipping as the gaps between the building appeared. He wondered what caused the heartless to gather at such a distance of him. When someone threaten a group of Heartless they would all come, mess with one, mess with all, that's the rule they always obeyed. Someone who posed a threat to them as probably arrived, that's the only reasonable explanation.
Riku looked down and saw one of the Heartless, it was quick, but Riku tailed him, he needed to know who or what was the cause of this.

The little bugger was fast, it didn't walk, he used the shadows to get to where it wanted, the only reason that let Riku know where it was was his ability to sense darkness.
After a while, the heartless took a hard right and stopped, Riku was right behind him and took the turn as well. He looked down and saw another horde of Heartless, they seemed to be after someone, a girl it seemed. Suddenly, memories of Kairi rushed into Riku's head. he flinched and looked closer, he wanted to see who was being attacked.
A shocked expression rose on his face, he saw who was being attacked, but what was she doing here? Why was she here in the middle of the Realm of Darkness? Riku didn't have the time to think, the heartless were about to attack her. Riku put his hood on and jumped down below.

He fell feet first and right after he touched the ground, he was already in his fighting stance. He was between Kairi and the Heartless, making sure none would harm her. Riku smirked underneath the hood, gesturing the Heartless to come with his hand.
They started charging at him, recklessly as usual. Riku rotated 180º and as the sword passed through them, they started disappearing. The first wave was done for. The Heartless regrouped and charged again.
Riku charged forward, slice and dicing his way through he middle of them, those that didn't get killed used this chance to attack Kairi. Riku smirked, he reached for the wall and used it to charge at them. He looked like a speeding bullets. The Heartless were about to attack Kairi, but he got to them first. With a simple slash they disappeared.

Riku was close enough to Kairi to hear her whisper. He frowned and looked down, his hood still on, he hoped she didn't notice it was him... He couldn't face any of his friends... Not now atleast.
He made his keyblade disappear and turned around. The few Heartless that didn't get killed fled. But they would probably be back.

[Kairi]

Kairi closed her eyes but just when the Heartless were about to attak her, a hodded figure decended from the sky and landed between them. She opened her eyes to look but couldn't tell who it was. He slashed and ripped through the group of Heartless and saved her life. She glanced up at the one in front of her. Though he hid his face, from the style of his fightning she thought she knew who he was.

"Could it be?" Kairi wondered if he was really Riku. Those attacks they were his..... she always used to sit and watch as he and Sora fought using wooden sword so there was no doubt about it. "Riku?" She asked and waited for a response. Would he be angry that she left Destiny Island instead of waiting as she always did.

[Riku]

Riku looked at his surroundings, there wasn't an Heartless in sight. Kairi spoke to him, Riku frowned underneath his hood and threw his hand to the side. Suddenly a black blob appeared on the ground, it expanded and shifted, transforming itself into a Corridor of Darkness. RIku pointed to it and said, "This will take you home. Leave this place of darkness...", he frowned again and was about to walk away. Darkness was coming back to him, he was no longer safe from it, even though Riku accepted it, it was stronger now and he didn't know how much time he had left before he was consumed by it again. It could happen at any time and Riku didn't want Kairi or Sora anywhere near him when that happened.

"You shouldn't have come here... This place is dangerous. Please go back home.", Riku said as he started to walk away. He hated himself for doing this to Kairi, but he didn't have any choice, he needed to protect her.

[Kairi]

Kairi saw the portal form in front of her but she refused to leave. She finally found one of her friends and once she heard his voice it confirmed that he was really Riku but why was he acting this way? She glanced back at the portal before walking away from him. "No.... I am not leaving Riku not without you...."

She walked closer to him and grabbed his arm just like she did before when he tried to leave in this world. "I left to find my friends. I am tired of waiting there alone. Lets all go home together." Kairi moved in front of him and reached to lower his hood and smiled just like she always did. "Come on Riku at least pretend your happy to see me."

[Riku]

Riku looked away from her, he couldn't bear to be looked at. He was ashamed of what he did, he was ashamed because of the fact that he had use the blindfold yet again. He didn't know what to do, he stopped, his back still facing Kairi, "I'm... Sorry, but I can't go back...", he said with his heart filled with grieve. He didn't want to do this to her, but he had to... He needed to keep her safe. And as long as he was being tormented by darkness, he needed to keep away from his friends, otherwise he might've hurt them...

"I'm happy to see you Kairi... but you shouldn't be here. It's too dangerous for anyone to be here for that matter. Please Kairi, go back to the island where you're safe.", Riku said, looking at Kairi as she removed the hood from his head, giving a soft, but a bit weak smile.

[Kairi]

"Riku....." Kairi shook her head again as her hands fell to her side. He was wearing that blindfold again. She let out a sighed glancing around quickly to see if there we any more Heartless around before returning to look at Riku.

"You think I am safe back on the island alone? No where is safe anymore our island was attacked by Heartless I had to leave." She saw his smile weak and filled with guilt. It hurt her to see her friend like this. Would she lose him to the darkness again. "I am tired of waiting.... of doing nothing to help my friends.... Riku please let me help this time."

[Riku]

Riku frowned as Kairi said his name. But he then snapped back and gave a quick glance, searching for any sighns of Heartless. He then tried to sense them, but he couldn't find any at the time being. He sighed with relieve, he wanted to atleast have a little time to talk to Kairi, it's been so long since he last did so.

RIku frowned again, she wasn't safe anywhere, the burden of being a princess of heart was bigger then he could ever imagine. The Heartless were always after her, no matter where she went. Riku looked at her, sighing he said "So they are acting up again?... Wee need to find you some place safe, where the Heartless can't find you.", he then frowned again, looking away from her.
Riku looked at her once again, "You can't Kairi it's too dangerous... You might get hurt, or worst...", Riku said, he couldn't let her get hurt, he would never be able to forgive himself if he did.

[Kairi]

“I knew you would be mad because I left Destiny Island….. but it’s not like I had a choice when those Heartless attack.” Kairi smiled still as she took a step to her side. “But I am glad I left….. like I said I was tired of waiting. I wanted to come and help with the fight against the darkness.” Would he let her help or agree to let her stay with him?

Kairi knew it was dangerous and she wasn’t much of a fighter, but with the powers of being a princes of hearts she knew she could put them to some use and she has been practicing for about a year now so she was ready.“Riku…. I am aware of how dangerous this is believe me…. But I still want to help. I think the safest place for me is to be with a friend. Let me go with you Riku.”

[Riku]

Riku frowned slightly, she was right, she had to escape. If she just stood there, the heartless probably would've taken her, or worst... But then he tried his best to smile, even though all he showed was a faint smile," Then I'm really glad you escaped... Sorry I wasn't there to keep you safe from them...", Riku said as he tried his best to force the smile to continue on his face.

Riku looked away from her, she didn't realize that the Heartless and Nobodies weren't the only ones she needed to look out for. Riku was scared. If the darkness took over his heart, he wouldn't be able to do anything to protect her, not even from himself. "You don't Kairi... Those who walk the path of Darkness, are ones you shouldn't trust...", Riku said, he was scared for her. She was a princess of Heart, a adversary to the darkness. If it took over his heart, Riku couldn't even imagine what it would do to her...
