Lightning was lost in a way she only had two choices in her life. Destroy the world and fail her sister or save it and die as a l'Cie. This wasn't easy but then again nothing ever was. Her life was always filled with difficult choices like these and Lightning never let anyone interfere with her decisions she always decided on her own... Maybe that was the reason why she was always alone. She didn't mind that though Lightning just wasn't good with company. She always kept to herself and did what she thought was right.
Everything changed though the moment she became a l'Cie her life took a turn to the worst. Now she fought on the opposite side against the ones who used to be her allies every one turned against her. Lightning let out a laugh her life was messed up ever since the beginning. She shook her head why was she thinking of that again now wasn't the time.
She walked down the streets at night that was the best time to avoid the PSICM . The streets were always empty then. Everyone always strayed in the safety of their homes to avoid the monsters that attacked that time. Lightning just walked aimlessly for hours lost in her own thoughts and wasn't aware where she was heading.

A flash of blue light, and white streams happened like a starburst and Noctis took his first step on the ground with a slight stumble. It had been too fast for him and he was forced to almost skid a metre, with his cloak flailing behind and his eyes wide.
When he looked away from the ground which he'd inspected briefly, he saw a very steadfast looking woman walking towards him. Not really towards him, but where he had suddenly entered, he would've blocked her if he'd come a minute later. The way she was, with a red cape billowing from the wind that his teleportation had produced and the colour of her hair, was very unique to that which he had seen and gave her a softer appearance than her stance did.
It is late, was I wrong to think there would be fewer people or rather, no one at all here .. Noctis looked around quickly, as if to answer his own thought and then looked back at her to see if she had moved. Friend or Foe would be too general...she seemed to have a weapon..
From the distance that he stood facing her, he saw the slight shine of a blade but ignored it and spoke first, ahead of himself and unprepared. " I was going to say... you don't look like you're one without a purpose..." What he really meant was that she didn't look like a normal citizen for some odd reason, and then again he couldn't say he hadn't seen her around before... because he hadn't really seen anyone around before or actually 'met' them...much less alone in the morbid darkness.

Lightning stopped looking up ahead when a figure suddenly appeared in the distance. She reached for her Blaze Edge but stopped once she got a clearer view of him. She has never seen him before which meant he wasn't a soldier or anyone from the government. She knew everyone from there since Lightning used to be a soldier herself but that was all in the past.
Why was he there though and could he be trusted? "A purpose…? I would say the same for you …" Lightning paused glancing around no one else was out other than them. "Guess you don't fear the monsters lurking around if you're out at night" Her reason was to hide from everyone and try and avoid unnecessary fights but what was his? He didn't even carry a weapon with him none that she has seen.

Straightening himself, Noctis maneuvered his body so that his left foot was facing her and his right was forming a casual L position on the ground, it seemed to give him more of a burst if they were to engage in anything hostile but he was confident to expect a mutual understanding that they had no qualms.
When she spoke, he judged by her voice and expression that she had no interest in explaining much about herself; he thought she had an aura that made him more at ease with his own inhibitions about interacting with people.
"Uh...well, my purpose is all that I am." Biting back a boring sentence, he attempted speech with her again with a renewed concentration. "That would have been my line." He took a few steps towards her, rather casually and then stopped again to prevent her from thinking he was going to strike her or something. It was funny to think that the first impression or thoughts when he met someone or when they met him, normally consisted of 'who are you, are you going to fight me; trust?' and he sighed quietly so she couldn't hear.
"The monsters within me are far worse, those I may meet here are only driven to find their death. I presume it is similar for you...? And...I am Noctis." Trying to read her thoughts, he knew she was being precautious of him and that alone created a barrier between them and he was quite rooted to where he stood now.

Lightning merely stood there as he moved around though she still didn't trust him her hand never reached for her gunblade and just fell on either side and she stood there listening to his words. Even when she was considered an enemy to this world Lightning never attacked or engaged in a fight without a good reason.
Lightning never really interacted with anyone or said more than what needed to be said. It wasn't because she lacked the skills or confidence but she just preferred not to. That was just who she was someone who did not speak unless she had something important to say. Everyone knew her like that and they all forgot about the girl behind the masked name or even cared.
At first everyone called her 'Lightning' because of her request but now it was because they forgot her true name. She never used it and so it faded from this world turned as if it never existed not even her sister could remember it.
Lightning shook her head slightly to take that topic of her mind. This wasn't the time or place to think about the past. "Yeah… you can say that" She paused to think. She did not fear these creatures maybe because she killed one too many in the past and she could tell the one in front of her couldn't care less about those monsters either. A smile formed on her lips but it faded as quickly as it came. "I am Lightning" she said taking a few step closer herself it was hard to talk from the distance.

The night air refreshed him from his loneliness, and uprooting his feet, he walked away from the centre of the road and more towards the grey pavement that ran alongside. The lights flickered and made the atmosphere rather surreal, as he took his eyes off her to look at the moonless sky. He felt like his skin glowed in the dark, as he glimpsed the contrasting shade of his black gloved hands and his bare arm.
He almost scoffed at the reminder of his parents naming him; he was to belong nowhere like the light of the night sky and only appear to bring rest from the day time's chores. Noctis was one with the night and he almost wanted to think he was the monster that roamed around.
When she spoke again, he turned back to her and saw a smile on her face cracking as fast as a whip had come, and gone. She had a most peculiar name and he began to think she made him less unique than he thought he was; it suited her from what he could see.
"Lightning..." Echoing her, he nodded once to acknowledge their greeting properly and closed the gap between them at the same time she did. "Did you have a place to go...to...?" Noctis chose his words carefully, what he meant sometimes came out vague but he really was eager to know if there was some 'event' happening. "The streets are usually empty..." He supported what pathetic attempt of conversation he tried to make, with a small wave of his hand, to indicate he knew she knew but he was still asking to know more about her.
The weapon he could see more clearly now, also fascinated him but it wasn't his place to ask. "You do not seem like the rest...and you're not from around here." He finished, thinking to let her correct him if he was wrong but expecting her not to because no one ever did; he wasn't wrong in his world. It simply wouldn't exist if he was. Nevertheless, it would provoke her to mention more detail; at this rate he couldn't figure out if she was an enemy or other.

Lightning paused only to listen to Noctis's question. 'Why was she out anyways?' No reason at all she just decided to get some fresh air clear her mind and maybe that would help her decide what choices she needed to make. "No… I am just out here to think" She simply replied. Lightning also had to admit she did enjoy the walks she took at night regardless of those monsters that did attack her. At that time it was always quite and peaceful.
She didn't mind being alone, actually she enjoyed that at times. No one really could understand her or knew who she really was. Lightning just never let anyone get that closed to her and she hardly trusted anyone.
"Yeah… they usually are at night not many are brave enough to take the risk of coming out to face those monsters…" She added to his sentence as though explaining but they both already knew the reason. Lightning only paused at his other question so Noctis didn't know who she was even after she revealed her name.
Now he wanted to know if she was from this world. There was something behind his words though Lightning could sense it as if he was trying to find an answer from asking simple questions.
"Actually I am but not from this city…" She answered and followed it by a short pause before deciding what to add to this sentence. "Noctis… your searching for a different reply aren’t you? How about asking what you want to know and if I can I will tell you"

Taken aback, Noctis was, in his own right, struck by lightning. How was she to know what he wanted to find out and what he was playing at. It was like his silence told her stuff...his emotionless face revealed stuff...he was a puppet sliced open with his own words, his own blade and now she could see everything; especially as she was correct.
"My questions involve your character. Your speech ...it is very abrupt; and I see your intuition is good. Much more than this is that you wield a weapon and speak of monsters in the streets yet... you are not from this city..." Taking a deeper breath, he wrecked his brain to piece together a justification for indirect personality.
"I guess, the way you react tells me about you..." That was almost a confession as he had a faraway look in his eyes while speaking to her; she was helping him gather information he had wanted to know and all of a sudden he didn't know why he wanted that information, now that it was freely delivered to him.
"...I didn't...want to suggest things that would give away myself to you in the case you were disinterested or which were things that repeated what you understood of me already. Sharing facts when unasked...it is often aimless..." There was a hint of uncertainty as though he required Lightning's agreement or contradiction to conclude. "You said ...Lightning so resolutely; that is your only name? I thought there would be things you cannot tell a stranger."

Lighting waited for his respond. Why did she know he wanted to know more from his questions? Nothing really gave him away but that was exactly what she would do and when she wanted to know more.
She remained silent this entire time listening to his words. He could tell that much about her from just how she reacted? She could tell though his main question wasn't answered yet. "And so all this time you have been trying to gather information about me from simple questions right?" Lightning was doing the same in a way. She did that with everyone gathering as much information as possible just to know more about the ones in front of her.
"You told me your name so I thought it was only fair to share mine with you but no that’s not my only name if that’s what you're asking." A moment of silent past as she thought of her name, her real name. Lightning was no longer that girl she grew up too fast and discarded that name now she could no longer use it. "My real name… that I cannot share not with you or anyone."

Noctis was obliged to consider her openness as a gesture of friendliness though neither were good at being amiable. He was prepared for her to say so, that she could not tell him about her name, which is what is often the biggest find in getting to know someone. There were many traceable things with a name, and here he was stuck with nothing...but it was fine this way.
A part of him wondered what she was thinking, because she hit the jack pot with what he would say next or not say and the latter, exactly at the right times. It was uncanny but as far as he was concerned, he held no telepathic ability and unless she did, he would have to wait it out to know her personality, or simply bombard her with simple questions. "Yes...Simple questions are more likely to be answered." and people don't want to answer if it is complex...they just think you should have the brains to know without their contribution.
"Your questions to me are equally simple..." He remarked as he pondered how she had felt it was fair the way he shared his name with her; he had only a minute ago been thinking the same thing. "It was what I was asking...but unlike you, I will share with you my full name. It is, Noctis Lucis Caelum..." He almost did it to assert his difference from her, but it was actually to give her more than she had bargained for; he needed to see if she would withstand him the way he tolerated her. He was rather lenient on liking this meeting, but whether she felt the same was a mystery.

Lightning paused taking in everything that’s been said to help form an idea about Noctis just to know who he really was. She noticed he was unarmed but couldn't say he was weak. The fact that he cared less about those monsters and walking without fear at night, that was proof enough that he possessed power but what kind that still she didn't know
"Yes rarely anyone refuses to ask simple questions but they don't always provide you with the information you want." Lightning said looking at Noctis just wondering what he could be going though his mind now… Could she trust him to tell him the truth… but why should she share that with a stranger she just met? It was a mystery why but she didn't mind sharing a few things with him.
"Fair enough… you're right and I am doing the same thing you are with these simple questions" She was surprised that he shared his full name with her. Was it that easy to give it away? She sighed shaking her head. "I am afraid I cannot offer mine… if you must know I lost my real name and now I am only called by Lightning. That is my name now and the only thing I can share"

"That only happens upon their decision to hide pieces of information." He finished what else she could've said had she explained her point. Feeling her looking at him and wondering things, Noctis filled himself with enlightenment at the notion that she displayed similar intellect and focal points when she exchanged ideas.
"Since you know this, what are you doing here? Will suffice...if you provide me with a straightforward answer." Feeling bold, and up to it, Noctis closed in on the topic and assertively insisted. "A simple question, I feel it is time I let you know that it has been my query, since I saw you. Aside from 'Who you are.'" He almost wanted her to accuse her of trespassing, of being someone who had no right to be here just so he could demonstrate further insight but Noctis wasn't the type of person to follow through with such trivial and immature concepts.
The way she could question him, was already shown to her as he asked her questions first; he embraced the answer she gave him and what he could make of it as a tiny shred of success. "It is fine. You have given me the information I was searching for even without revealing your name." Noctis shifted his weight from right to left and walked into a spotlight under a lamp by the street which was closer to her. "It is the same if you wish to question me...I expect you prefer the fair exchange." There was something about the air and tone of which he spoke to her with, it almost mimicked hers and Noctis was unaware.

His words were true and she had to agree but if Lightning had the chance to go back in time she would only make the same decisions as she did before. She did it to protect and care for her sister and ever at the cost of her own life Lightning would not hesitate to repeat what she had done. She had no regrets but one though she never admitted that.
"Your right it was my decision to abandon my name and take upon a new one. It was a choice that had to be made and even at the cost of losing my real name and a part of me I don't regret my actions even now. "
The question finally came she knew it though before he even asked. Form Noctis's expression she could tell he knew nothing about her and was eager to know more just like she was. "Alright I will answer that question straight forward without leaving anything out but in return you have to answer you own question with mine agreed?"
She stood leaning her back against a wall to rest as she glanced up at the sky but soon looked back at Noctis awaiting his answer. She would reveal the truth to him who she was as he asked but only if he would do the same for her.
Asking simple questions could only bring them this far and so if they wished to know more to unveil that mystery they both carried they must take a different bigger step and it seemed it was her turn to go first.

His hair swung as he nodded sealing their pact of truce and truth. "Fine." She had his word, he would answer what she required truthfully as there was nothing about his identity he needed to be ashamed about. Neither was there anything he had to hide from her if she gave him a fair exchange and he could take the risk of trust the same way she was.
"We all make choices at a cost of loss and regret does nothing to change what is done." He agreed on another point, and paused so she could fill the time with anything she might say. Noctis watched as she leaned back against a wall, while he remained where he was and saw the expectant look in her eyes. It had to be mutual and he couldn't get away with anything, unless he was looking for a war...
"Ask as you like then. I will answer...you already know my name, what else is needed can be very specific." Seeing as she had taken the first stepping stone to strengthen their deal, he allowed himself to be subjected to her scrutiny or rather, interrogation to express his sincerity which he could never format into words or physical actions."Identity...I am one of the light, and am in servitude of this city..." He begun but trailed off, picking what to say next but thinking it'd be so much easier when she just threw him what she wanted to know now that she was open to, immediately.

"Alright" Lightning said with a nod as well. Now that they both agreed to be honest with the information they share then now was time to ask the questions they both wanted to know the answer to. She would reveal everything and trust him in hopes he would do the same with her. If there was anything either one of them wanted to know about the other now was the best time to ask. They both gave their words to tell the truth.
"We can only learn from the choices we make and if we do regret them then in the future we can avoid making the mistake again. But as for turning back time we all know that its impossible and it is never wise to dwell in the past and forget to live." Lighting added and paused to see if what he thought of that decision.
She waited and listened as he explained his side and job he gave her something to know but waited for her to ask the question. "So now that we both decided to share answers it's time we start asking the questions… Who are you really Noctis? You walk these streets alone at night without a weapon for protection but I think there is more to you your power what is it that you posses?" She was curous to say the least just to know more about this and there was no reason to hold back any questions she wanted answerers for and she knew he would do the same when it was her time to answer
